Chain and Rope Suppliers also carry inertia reels with a rescue winch facility. These work in the same way as a standard inertia reel or inertia block. They are designed from a heavy duty casting and uses a 4mm wire rope with a swivel carbine hook which the user attaches to the dorsal anchor point on their full body fall arrest safety harness. The inertia block / fall arrest block works like a seat belt allowing the user to move freely within a  radius. If the user falls the inertia block / fall arrest block will lock up and prevent the user falling too far. As this block also has a winching function it allows a second person to winch the first person up or down. This kind of winching rescue block has particular application in confined spaces like man holes etc. Like all PPE, rescue blocks must be inspected by a competent person every 6 months. All of Chain and Rope Suppliers technicians are trained in the inspection and recertification of fall arrest rescue block.
