Fall arrest blocks are also known as retractable lanyards, inertia reels, safety blocks and rescue blocks. Fall arrest blocks consist of a carbine hook which attaches to the anchor point on your full body safety harness. The carbine hook is connected to either a wire rope or webbing lanyard which is able to retract in and out of the retractable fall arrest block. The fall arrest block is hen attached to an anchor point whether it is via scaffold hook, carbine hook or attachment sling. The inertia reel is designed to allow the individual freely move around unimpeded. If however the individual were to fall from the height the fall arrest block or inertia reel would sense the sudden jerk in the webbing or wire rope line and lock the block. This is the same way a seatbelt in a car works.

Fall arrest blocks, retractable lanyards and inertia reels come in a variety of styles and sizes including 2m microlites, 6m rolex lanyards, 6m webbing fall arrest blocks, 6m wire fall arrest blocks, 10m inertia reels, 15m inertia reels, 20m inertial reels and rescue winches. Fall arrest blocks, like all PPE must be inspected by a competent person every 6 months. All of Hoistech's technicians are trained in the inspection and recertification of fall arrest blocks and inertia reels.
